A couple of days ago, Microsoft released an update to
their Internet Explorer browser that is sure to effect all Flash based web sites. Basically a patent holder sued MS
about the way they display OBJECTs and EMBEDs in webpages and in turn MS decided to create a browser change that
requires user input to display ActiveX based media. This will make your Flash-based sites look a little empty without
some code changes. First up, you can avoid disappearing media with a simple JavaScript to write out the EMBED code,
instead of actually hand coding it. Second you could download a simple embedder to display your files in almost the
same way. Or you could ignore the change and hope your users don't upgrade, or don't use IE. Unfortunately this just
adds a new layer to rich internet design and may make the life of a Flasher just a little bit more annoying. What are
you doing during your design process to keep up with this change?
For more info on how this directly effects you and what you can do check out deconcept's page from December linking to ways to embed your Flash and Quicktime with the JavaScript method.

1. Darn.
I got a lot of flash to fix now. Thanks MS (and the silly people who love IE).
