Amazon chooses Flash for Film competition

tribecaMacromedia announced today that Amazon.com has chosen Macromedia Flash as as its exclusive online video format for the Amazon Theater (TRIBECA) Short Film Competition, which will showcase up-and-coming filmmakers. I must say that I’m not particularly suprised.

Just 4 months ago Amazon used flash Video for their ‘Amazon Theater’ and I’m assuming that the number of ‘technical emails/phone calls and complaints’ was fairly minimal, this saves them from having to choose Windows Media format over Quicktime, and possibly alienating potential consumers.

Once Filmmakers register and submit their films at www.amazon.com/shortfilms. they’l receive a version of Sorenson Squeeze (I’m assuming it only outputs a amazon formatted and branded flv)  and a special offering from Metro Encoding of Los Angeles to encode their films in Flash video format.

Submissions will be available for viewing and voting by the general public on Amazon.com at the end of May. So all you Filmakers families get your mouse fingers in shape.

Do you suppose Tim Burton knows flash?
